Alan presents international award to school
27 January 2012
On Thursday 26th January, Alan visited Cardinal Heenan Catholic Sports College in Liverpool to award its students with the British Council's prestigious International School Award. The award, which is the highest in its category, recognises the exceptional contributions made by schools which engage with international issues.
The school has been at the forefront of providing an international dimension to its curriculum. Its links to schools across the world, including in Sierra Leone, provide a unique opportunity for the school's students to develop their knowledge of international issues beyond what they may read in textbooks.
During the award ceremony, Alan took questions from the students on a range of issues, including the Government's commitment to international development.
Alan commented: 'These young people are tremendously inspiring. They have a real grasp of the world around them. They understand that investing British aid in fragile and conflict-affected countries is a smart move, delivering real results for the very poorest and protecting Britain from external threats.'
