Alan welcomes Army announcement
06 March 2013
Alan has welcomed the confirmation that Kendrew Barracks, site of the former RAF Cottesmore, and North Luffenham remain a key part of the Army's future basing plans.
In a statement to Parliament on Tuesday 5th March Defence Secretary Philip Hammond confirmed that Rutland's bases will form one of the seven key strategic hubs for the Army in the United Kingdom. More troops will continue to arrive in Rutland and both bases will get a share of the £180 million that has been earmarked for improving infrastructure within the East Midlands bases.
Alan said: 'This is more really good news for the Army in Rutland. We have been working for several years now to turn the negative of losing the RAF into a positive, and this is another step in the right direction. The share of the investment that will be coming to Kendrew and North Luffenham is a huge boost and a sign of Rutland's place within the strategic distribution of bases and of our continuing links with the armed forces.'
