Duncan obtains Melton Army Promise
15 August 2011
The Defence Secretary, Liam Fox, has confirmed in a letter to Alan Duncan MP that the Defence Animal Centre in Melton Mowbray will remain open. The MOD envisages that the Military Working Dogs, currently based in Germany, will move to Melton from 2013 onwards.
Dr Fox also confirms that the RAF will vacate Cottesmore in 2012 and the Army units from Germany will move in from 2013, clarifying the position stated in his letter of 18 July.
Alan Duncan commented, “Keeping the Defence Animal Centre was a priority for me, and knowing that the MOD plans to build on the expertise already there is encouraging. The news is certain to get tails wagging in the town!”
