Duncan's a Destroyer
01 November 2010
HMS Duncan, the latest of the new Type 45 Destroyers, was launched in Portsmouth on 11 October 2010. HMS Duncan is named after Alan’s ancestor, Admiral Adam Duncan of Camperdown, who defeated the Dutch fleet at the Battle of Camperdown on 11 October 1797. HMS Duncan is the seventh vessel to bear the name and the ship’s motto is “Secundis dubusque rectus” which means, “Upright in prosperity and peril.”
Alan said, ‘I am very proud that the Royal Navy continues to name ships after Admiral Duncan. The ship’s Latin motto means “Upright in prosperity and peril” which is good general advice. I wish the crew well and thank them for the dedication to duty.’
