On 11th January 2016, Alan attended a debate in Parliament on the issue of local government funding for rural areas.
Alan said: “Areas like Rutland & Leicestershire have been underfunded for years. Our budgets should match the needs and realities of living in rural areas, not our small size.
Despite lower earnings and higher council taxes in rural areas, urban authorities receive 45% more in central Government grant.
Our councils will continue to do more with less, but the funding formula is stacked against them. I look forward to working with the Rural Fair Share Campaign toward a fairer deal for areas like ours.”
