Alan has welcomed the news that a dementia care centre at Gloucester House in Melton Mowbray has been saved from the threat of closure.
Following the news last month that the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) intended to end funding for the centre, Alan strongly lobbied the Chief Executive for the decision to be reversed calling it 'a total false economy' that would stretch carers 'beyond breaking point'.
After Alan's intervention, and a huge outcry from local people who depend on the service, Age UK - who run the service - announced yesterday that the CCG would continue to fund the service beyond July.
Reacting to the news, Alan said:
“This is a major victory for Melton. I strongly criticised the CCG for their proposal to cut the funding, and their reversal of the decision is a lifeline for a vital service.
“I’m glad to have been able to help break the deadlock. What matters now is securing the future of Gloucester House for the long term.’
