Alan Duncan supports plan to promote renewable energy

Big SwitchCampaign encourages residents to save money and the environment

Alan Duncan, Rutland and Melton MP and Shadow Secretary of State for Trade Industry and Energy has added his name to the new campaign, Climate Change Now, backed by the Conservative leader, David Cameron. The drive encourages households to switch to renewable electricity providers. By individuals acting collectively, action can be taken to protect the environment from climate change.

Many residents across Rutland and Melton may still be on old, expensive tariffs with power companies and have never looked at the possibility of switching to a more competitive provider for their energy needs. Yet there are now a number of companies, endorsed by green groups, who provide eco-friendly energy and who, in many cases, are cheaper that than the priciest non-renewable tariffs. It is possible to switch easily online, via www.climatechangenow.com.

Alan Duncan explained:

“It’s really important that people feel they can individually make a difference on issues that matter to them. By switching to a renewable energy supplier, local residents across Rutland and Melton can take responsibility for their own impact on the environment, and help to halt climate change. I will be signing up myself to the campaign and switching tariffs.

“Conservatives are backing this drive and want to make a difference – not just through our policies, but also through our personal commitment and passion for change.”

A third of UK carbon emissions come from homes. Switching renewable energy is therefore the single most effective action that local residents can take to tackle climate change. In the future, climate change not only threatens disruption to life caused by storms, floods and drought, but may also affect people financially through raising insurance, taxes and even everyday groceries.
