Northern Rock job losses Responding to news that up to 2,000 job losses could occur at Northern Rock, Alan said: ‘I regret any job loss but we have to be realistic. Northern Rock will have to shrink before it can grow. These losses are perhaps not as large as people feared. We need to know how many job losses are immediate and ensure these people are retrained and are helped to find work elsewhere. Labour MPs who pretended that every job could be kept have serious questions to answer on whether they understand the real world. The bank must now be given time to restructure and rebuild.’
