Windfarm Proposal
Update 19-03-08
I was pleased to hear that South Kasteven District Council has voted against the application for a proposed wind farm at Thacksons Well.
Arising from the planning application - three points emerged:
- The damage that is being done to the reputation of renewable energy by (a) the government policy and (b) predatory developers.
- The amount of energy produced is not apparently a material planning issue!
The developer "claimed" 6.9 MW average, which is less than 1% of any moderate sized power station. To achieve a proper impact balance assessment, the productivity or power out must be included - otherwise we will have repeated situations of huge local impact with minimal gain.
- Finally after our research into how communities have been affected by poor location of wind turbines, we believe a buffer zone of at least 2km between homes and turbines should be statutory. It is of interest that Scottish planning guidance recommends this exact buffer distance from villages.
The fight is now on to prevent the application at the second site at Palmer's Hollow.
