Any MP will undertake a series of responsibilities in Parliament. All try to defend the interest of their constituents using debates, parliamentary questions and letters to ministers. Some will serve on select committees, others on a standing committee which studies the details of a Bill. Those who are on the front bench (ministers or shadow ministers) assume extensive additional duties. This website provides a link to the 'They Work For You' website, which is a private initiative designed to record the activity and opinions of any MP. It is a useful tool for research, although its statements require some qualifying. It is based on an MP's

voting record from which the the strength of his/her opinion is deduced, this methodology has some faults, as abstentions or absence for other reasons in no way indicate that an MP thinks less about the issue. Parliament has its own website, which is invaluable for any enquiry about what is going on there. Links to both sites are provided to the right of this screen.
