Alan is supporting Rutland Council’s bid to stop a travellers’ site being set up between Ashwell and Langham. Travellers bought the land and have moved on without planning permission. The Council is using the powers that it has to stop them building prior to any planning permission application.
Alan said, ‘Rutland Council have taken timely steps that will be supported by residents of nearby villages. This is local democracy in action, which gives people control over their surroundings and allows decisions on a case-by-case basis. These sites can have unforeseen effects on rural communities such as demand for services and traffic on roads. It is vital that these effects are considered fully and as a matter of urgency.’
