Sir Alan has welcomed the announcement that the Co-Op farmland at Stoughton has been sold to the Wellcome Trust.
As part of a decision to focus on retail and consumer services, the Co-Op announced in the Spring that it intended to sell off its farming operations, including at Stoughton in Sir Alan’s constituency. At the time, Sir Alan called on the Co-Op to ensure that the land would continue to be used for farming, rather than residential development (http://www.alanduncan.org.uk/articles/alan-calls-for-stoughton-co-op-farm-to-remain-agricultural)
Sir Alan said: ‘This seems to be positive news for Stoughton, though we are yet to see the full details. I called on the Co-Op to sell to someone that would allow the farms to continue, and the Wellcome Trust appear to fit the bill well.’
