Council gets Duncan on message

Rutland County Council were last week aghast to see a Newcastle United FC mouse mat adorning the desk of local MP Alan Duncan in his photograph welcoming the announcement that Rutland is to receive a £710,000 grant to improve broadband coverage.

The Geordie mouse mat is a throwback to Alan’s time as Shadow Minister for Tyneside but thanks to the intervention of a personal gift from Helen Briggs, Chief Executive of Rutland County Council, he is now the proud owner of a ‘Digital Rutland’ replacement which has bounced Newcastle off his desk.

Alan said: ‘I’ve had a soft spot for the North East since my stint as Shadow Minster for the region, but Rutland has always been where my heart lies. It’s a fitting way to celebrate the news that Rutland’s broadband network is to get such a vital boost.’
